Just ate lunch at PF Changs
Wow, what mediocre food!
Don’t Americans like any flavor other than salty and sweet?
I’m on vacation in a flyover state. Driving down the street is one awful fast food joint after another.
Why do average Americans stand for such boring, lackluster food? Even though much of the food has no taste, people eat so much of it that they’re eating themselves to death.
The coasts have such better food. The Chinese food and pizza in NYC, for example, are spectacular. The Thai and Mexican in California are excellent.
Doesn’t the rest of America have the same tastebuds??

Chinese food has gotten way too sweet in general. Yuck.

What's wrong with sugar & salt?

PF Changs has the most locations in New York state and California - by far.
OP is just trying to be a pretentious snit. YOU are the one eating at a chain restaurant. You could have found some authentic place easily via Google Maps, but no.
There is good food almost everywhere nowadays - just maybe not in the same quantity of options, but that's understandable in smaller areas.

Two of life's great mysteries: why are Americans so stupid and so fat?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 7, 2021 5:33 PM |
Oh - and there are FIVE PF Changs just in Manhattan alone. So shove it with your pretentious attitude OP.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 7, 2021 5:33 PM |
Poor you, OP. Also stupid you. Anyone looking for taste knows not to go to a chain restaurant. If you really must, you'd be better off keeping it really simple. A baked potato, butter, salt and pepper? A hamburger with extra onions? A sausage with mustard and some French fries with pepper and ketchup.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 7, 2021 5:39 PM |
The PF Chang’s in Manhattan are for tourists.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 7, 2021 5:51 PM |
We're all just going to ignore the fact that in order to arrive at his conclusions, OP actually chose to eat at PF Changs?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 7, 2021 5:52 PM |
AND you didn't check out the local joints as you made up this EST.

Can you direct me to good food in Tampa?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 7, 2021 6:00 PM |
For quick food on the go, I like Panda.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 7, 2021 6:01 PM |
The chain restaurants in Manhattan, for some odd reason, are the worst. The same chain restaurant in the suburb is way better.
Not sure why
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 7, 2021 6:01 PM |
The son of PF Chang is a MAGA Gay. So there’s that

Americans have such simple palettes. Great cultures are often defined by great cuisine.
While they conquered the world, Britain and the US have never been great cultures
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 7, 2021 6:07 PM |
And this is important, how?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 7, 2021 6:11 PM |
Even in moments of starvation, I wouldn’t eat PF Chang’s
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 7, 2021 6:11 PM |
You sound exhausting, OP. I live in Ohio and we have many small local restaurants that cater to a variety of tastes and ethnicities. All those big chain restaurants are for lazy fucks who can't be bothered to look past the highway off ramp then have the nerve to bitch about how pedestrian American cuisine is.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 7, 2021 7:12 PM |
Here's a tip: PF Chang's is a chain restaurant. If you are eating at a chain restaurant, you have failed your taste buds. Especially if you are attempting to eat ethnic food.
Find the nearby Asian community and find a restaurant there to try instead if you want Asian food like Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc.

R19, it’s not just chain restaurants. Entire swaths of the country has crappy food.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 7, 2021 8:41 PM |
R18, un, you THINK you’re eating authentic ethnic food. In actuality, you’re eating Americanized shit you think is so great because it tastes different from McDonalds
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 7, 2021 8:42 PM |
I thought half of those restaurants closed.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 7, 2021 8:50 PM |
Most places that have PF Chang and Panda Express also have actually good Chinese food.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 7, 2021 8:51 PM |
This is to all the high-and-mighty New Yorkers who love to look down their noses at "flyovers" because they think they're so klassy.
Just remember: Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani are both NYC born and bred. That shows exactly how much "klass" you people actually possess.

Way to attack a city that just made a Black man mayor again, R24.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 7, 2021 8:58 PM |
Sounds like you did a real poor job of trip planning, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 7, 2021 9:05 PM |
Panda Express has better food and more bang for the buck. I also, though, would prefer local Asian food over a chain but Panda is okay. PF Changs is incredibly overpriced for what you get.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 7, 2021 9:11 PM |
I haven't eaten at PF Changs in a couple of years. They had mung beans sprouts in the fried rice which was gross.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 7, 2021 9:23 PM |
Like most DLers, Americans as a whole prefer quantity over quality.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 7, 2021 9:35 PM |
That's why so many Americans are so damn fat.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 7, 2021 9:38 PM |
R30 Americans got fat because they stopped smoking. Other countries still light up all damn day. They kept thin because of it.

I was treated to a Chang's lunch by two old friends ages ago. I think it was when the location in Chicago had just opened. My friends were quite excited about it, yet I hadn't heard of it. (I had wanted Chinese at The Peninsula Hotel, where they were staying)
Though many of the dishes were rather sweet, some were good, and spicy. Overall the place was QUITE nice for a chain. There were white tablecloths, nice decor, and more than adequate service. There were several underlings who seemed more in keeping with formal fine dining. Perhaps it's gone downhill since the beginning. I haven't eaten there ever again TBH though, as I usually prefer independent restaurants.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 7, 2021 11:22 PM |
I just google mapped the PF Chang's location in Tampa. Presuming OP is not in the airport and not in St. Pete, then he's at the PF Changs in a mall.
But within a TWO MILE RADIUS there are the following restaurants:
Chinese: Hao Wah Restaurant; Top China; Shanghai Restaurant; Yummy House China Bistro
Japanese: Izakaya Tori; Dosunco Ramen
Thai: Royal Palace Thai Restaurant; Thai 5
Vietnamese: Indochinois
Indian: Flames Indian Cuisine
Yeah - I guess there really are no other choices than to eat at PF Changs in a shopping mall. Get the fuck outta here OP.

There are very good restaurants out here in Flyovia. You just have to find them, usually. They are hidden away. The locals know about them. I found some amazing food out here. The locals support them.
