Alex Pereira reached the pinnacle of MMA when he claimed the second title of his UFC career. As such, he won the middleweight and light heavyweight titles within two years of entering the UFC. However, it didn’t come easy. ‘Poatan’ had to endure dreaded weight cuts to make the middleweight limit. Only now did he make the weight jump to 205lbs. But, once again, he shocked the MMA world by sharing his walk-around weight.

In his recent Instagram story, Alex Pereira shared a picture of him flexing his biceps, revealing his current body weight. He claimed to weigh at 104.6kg, which converts to 230lbs approximately. However, he looked shredded and lean in the picture, shocking fans. This meant that ‘Poatan’ had to cut 25 pounds to make the light heavyweight limit, which exceeded an average fighter’s weight cut. A fan commented, “Where does he hold his weight?“

During his time at middleweight, Alex Pereira cut well more than 30 pounds to make the 185lbs limit. UFC commentator Joe Rogan even accused him of ‘sanctioned cheating’ for cutting huge amounts of weight to gain an unfair advantage over his opponent. But it was within the rules of the game and wasn’t a malpractice.

Alex Periera recently won the light heavyweight title by defeating Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295. It was only his second fight at the weight class, and he had already won the title to etch his name in the UFC history books. As such, he looked forward to defending his title multiple times to solidify his status as one of the all-time greats.

Alex Pereira on his potential move up to heavyweight

Alex Periera was recently rumored to face the interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in UFC 300. The rumors started when Pereira posted a puzzling mathematical equation on his Instagram hinting at a possible move up to heavyweight for UFC 300. However, ‘Poatan’ cleared the air around the matter and stated his Instagram equation was misinterpreted. As such, he answered the possibility of moving up to heavyweight.

A title win at heavyweight would make Alex Pereira the only fighter to claim three titles in the UFC. As such, this idea interested ‘Poatan.’ He also acknowledged he had the physicality to fight the heavyweights. However, he didn’t want to jump on it and waste the opportunity hastily. As such, he shared he wanted to take his time and do it the ‘right way’. Here is what he said:

I have the height and the size of a heavyweight, but this is a thing that’s got to be programmed, put some work in. It’s not just something I jump in on. I want to make things the right way. I can definitely fight at heavyweight, maybe some day in the future. But it’s got to be something that’s well planned.

Alex Pereira became a two-division UFC champion joining the likes of UFC legends George St. Pierre, Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, and more. But he has the potential and opportunity to one-up them by winning a third UFC title. However, it would be a tough ask considering Pereira’s age. So, his move up to heavyweight has to happen sooner than later. As such, many fans expected him to make the move, but ‘Poatan’ will focus on defending his title next.
